Crested Goshawk

The Crested Goshawk (Accipiter trivirgatus) is the only resident accipiter in Singapore.

There are 11 subspecies, mostly with restricted range, except for indicus, which has the widest range from north India east to China and south to Singapore [1].

The one in Singapore is of race indicus.

In Singapore, it is listed as a rare resident breeder.

It can be told apart from other accipiters by a short crest, yellow eye-rings, 6 fingers, short wings when perched, thick tail bands, thick tarsi. Adult is grey above; pale below with streaks on throat and breast, and bars belly; yellow irises. Male has grey head sides, while female has some brown colour.
